Touched by Wildlife -

Seven Months as an International Wildlife Volunteer

(and without makeup!)

THERE ARE ONLY FIVE  PHOTOS ON THIS PAGE. FIND OUT WHAT  OTHER TWO ANIMALS COMPLETED MY

MENAGERIE!

I was determined to see as many different species of wildlife in their natural habitat doing what they do best, being themselves in the wild. If I also had the chance to touch them and develop a relationship, even better.  Success!  I picked seven different species to spend time with and fell in love five times.  It was such an honor to be allowed into their world in a very personal way.

I have never had so much fun as on my volunteer placements working with wildlife!  How many people do you know actually get to touch a wild animal? This type of volunteer placement is gold for any person who loves animals or may be considering a career in biology, zoology or veterinary work. No experience was necessary, though being comfortable around animals took me from interested outsider to helpful volunteer much faster.  No make up or fancy clothes required.  Get ready to join me for the time of your life as we go into the wild!

Bruce, a Western Gray Kangaroo joey, was the fist of many gentlemen that caught my eye and got my heart “hopping” during my year around the world.

I never considered myself a bird person, but I even fell for a one-eyed, bad tempered South African Penguin listed as Number 364.

Hard to please and opinionated, we finally came to a truce!

You know you have been accepted into the troop when they feel comfortable enough to fall asleep on your lap.

My month with the baboons was one of my most rewarding experiences.  While I ended most days filthy and at times exhausted, I also had a grin from ear to ear.
